Most of us don’t know what a guardianship is, and that’s normal, until you actually need one, which is usually too late.

What is a guardianship?

A guardianship is a legal proceeding in which a guardian is appointed to exercise the legal rights of an incapacitated person or in the case of a minor who has received funds.  A guardian is a surrogate decision-maker appointed by the court to make either personal and/or financial decisions for a minor or for an adult with mental or physical disabilities. After adjudication, the subject of the guardianship is termed a “ward.”  Irama Valdes, P.A. assists individuals with three types of Guardianships:

  1. Minor Guardianship
  2. Incapacitated Adult
  3. Approval of Minor Settlement

The guardianship process is not an easy one, but with the right tools and representation, this overwhelming event can be something manageable. I have created the Ultimate Guardianship Guide which has helped many of my clients better understand guardianships. As a loyal reader, you have FIRST access to this guide at no cost.
